About Us

We’re Ashley and Calvin — the heart (and hands!) behind Monochrome Meadows. After wanting to slow down and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, we were lucky enough to find our little slice of the country. It all started with two Kune Kune pigs… and just a week later, we added two more. From there, the animal crew grew quickly — goats, chickens, two ponies, and of course, cows!

Monochrome Meadows Farm School is a preschool and homeschool enrichment program designed to blend early childhood education with the rhythms of farm life.

Children engage in a balance of structured learning and open-ended exploration. Our curriculum weaves together:

  • Literacy & Language through stories, songs, and nature journaling

  • Math & Science through hands-on activities like planting seeds, measuring feed, and observing animal life cycles

  • Creative Arts through farm-inspired crafts, music, and imaginative play

  • Social–Emotional Skills by working together in chores, circle time, and cooperative games

On our hobby farm, every day is an opportunity to spark curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity. Whether feeding animals, building with natural loose parts, or exploring the garden, children are encouraged to learn by doing—gaining both academic foundations and a lifelong love of learning.

At Monochrome Meadows, we believe that children thrive when they are given time to imagine, grow, and learn outside in a supportive, small-group setting.

📖 Our Educational Philosophy

We believe children learn best when their hearts, hands, and minds are engaged. Our program is rooted in:

  • Hands-On Learning – Kids actively participate in daily farm chores, animal care, and garden work, turning real-life tasks into meaningful lessons.

  • Nature-Based Curriculum – The outdoors is our classroom! We use the seasons, weather, and natural rhythms to guide our learning.

  • Whole-Child Development – We nurture not just academics, but also creativity, curiosity, responsibility, and resilience.

  • Play & Imagination – Open-ended play with loose parts, pretend farm scenarios, and creative arts spark critical thinking and problem solving.

  • Community & Cooperation – Small groups encourage teamwork, empathy, and building strong friendships through shared experiences.

  • Foundations for Learning – Literacy, math, and science are woven naturally into farm life—counting eggs, journaling observations, or measuring garden soil.
